Trap Packs
Molecular Trap packs are ideal to use in the maintenance of any anhydrous solvents. The high capacity Molecular Trap packs continuously absorb water and maintain dry solvents even through repeated exposures to the open air, which allows for the purchase of larger, more economical, bottles of dry solvents.
Molecular Trap packets are designed for safe use in automated instrumentation and have been functionally tested for use in DNA and RNA synthesis on the MerMade. Molecular Trap packs are designed and tested for use directly on automated instruments in the acetonitrile wash and dilution bottles, the activator bottle and directly in the amidite solution vials.
Molecular Trap packets are designed and manufactured to withstand long-term, in-situ solvent exposure while maintaining full filtration of molecular sieve particulates. They are manufactured from a microporous, electronics grade, hydrophobic membrane material. The effective filtration of the membrane is 0.2 microns. This membrane material is tested safe for long term exposure to all common solvents used in combinatorial chemistry. The molecular sieve based fills are pharmaceutical quality and are mixed and fully activated just prior to packaging.
Each manufactured lot is use tested by quantifying water removal from a “spiked” sample of acetonitrile (using Karl-Fischer titration). For the customer, product quality is assured by examining the package before use. First, by verifying that the packet vacuum is intact, as any loss of vacuum indicates air entry which would reduce the performance of the product; and second to check for any powder leakage inside the foil packet which would indicate a leak point in the membrane pouch.
Molecular Trap packs (“Traps”) are shipped fully activated, in individual, evacuated foil packages and are ready for immediate use. This usage assumes that the user has added the Molecular Trap packet to maintain a low water solvent (<50 ppm) or solution. To produce a low water solution from reagent grade or “old” material, at least two packets per bottle, and waiting a minimum of 48 hours is recommended.
